ODEB (1,2-Diethoxybenzene) is colourless crystalline solid (below 40°C) with a phenol like odour.

ODEB is manufactured industrially by the ethylation of pyrocatechol and used as a precursor for the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredients and agrochemical products.


Applications:
Used as a building block for various chemical compounds, some of it are as follows:

Intermediates prepared from ODEB are used in the synthesis of active pharmaceutical ingredient such as Drotaverine.

Its intermediates are also used in the manufacture of antiprotozoal veterinary drug, Decoquinate.

Used as a key raw material in the manufacture of the agrochemical fungicide, Diethofencarb.
